Work all day and direct contact with wet conditions like you’re in a disaster situation. It not only reduces your productivity but also affects your health in some cases.

The first thing that you want to be putting a lot of thought into is your footwear. You want to have the appropriate footwear close-by so that you don’t even have to think twice when you go into response mode.

At this time having waterproof work boots is extremely important.

We have several benefits of waterproof work boots for disastrous situations. It may help you answer to the question ” Why are you need the best waterproof work boots?”

Keeping Your Feet Warm and Dry

Of course, the greatest benefit of waterproof work boots is that they keep your feet dry.

Working with wet, cold, and uncomfortable feet will keep you from focusing on the work because of the discomfort it causes. And you know, work-related accidents often occur during distractions. This is scary!

Depending on how long your feet stay wet, you could run the risk of certain health conditions like trench foot, frostbite, sores and blisters which can cause feet to become cold, numb, swollen, painful, and discolored.

Also, it is the ideal environment for bacteria to grow it leads to bromodosis or smelly feet. It brings discomfort, which makes you not want to think about your shoes anymore. If your feet are clean and dry, those bacteria will have to find their lunch somewhere else.

Although it is fully treatable, preventing it in the first place by wearing a pair of the best waterproof work boot is a much better and more comfortable option.

Resistance to Chemicals and Solvents

Water isn’t the only liquid that you need to worry about. Chemicals, fuels, or other solvents that come with the risks more dangerous

Several pairs of waterproof work boots do provide a high degree of resistance to chemicals and other solvents.

The chemicals or abrasive substances that can cause injuries and can also damage and deteriorate your shoes.

In this case, it is necessary to look for a work boot that can withstand harsh chemicals and abrasive materials, as well as provide grip and slip resistance because of liquid chemicals and other hazardous liquids that may be present on your work floor surface.

Slip Resistance and Traction

As a worker, your job may or may not be limited to walking on perfectly smooth terrains. Some situations may require that you work on an uneven or slippery surface depending on the nature of your work.

Naturally, these unfortunate circumstances increase the chances of hurting yourself.

Waterproof work boots often have a rubber or strong grips to provide solid slip resistance, traction, and a more secure grip, which helps when walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.

The pair of a waterproof work boot with the slip-resistant sole is possible to prevent the impending dangers that you may face.

Cleanliness and Hygiene

Work in construction and water well industries, as one would stand in well water or at least rainwater for several hours at a time and this water is not so clean.

Exposure to contaminated dirty water easy to lead to health issues like intestinal problems, upset stomach, headache, and flu symptoms.

So, one of the best ways to minimize exposure to potentially contaminated dirty water is to wear waterproof work boots and avoid your skin touching it as much as possible.

Electric Hazard Protection

In the workplace, electricity can be a grave danger. Just three milliamperes of power are enough to cause you bodily harm.

Almost people electricity indirectly and may be exposed to particular electrical hazards.

Most people have direct and indirect exposure to electrical hazards at work, especially such as engineers, construction workers, electricians, and maintenance men.

You may know the dangers and are careful. However, power cannot be seen, and in some places such as construction sites, electrical cables can be left exposed. Your safety as a worker starts from the ground up.

Therefore, the best waterproof work boots with ability security are the most important in this regard.

Waterproof vs.Water-repellent vs. Water-Resistant

When you’re shopping for boots, you’ll likely come across the terms “Water-Resistant“, ” Water-repellent“, and “Waterproof”.

The big question is: What’s the difference? There are a lot of articles written on this topic, but we figured we would throw in our two-cents as well and take a closer look at the differences between all three terms, with a specific focus on the world of work boots.

First of all, let’s start with some quick definitions of all three terms, as given by the Oxford English Dictionary:

Water-resistant: able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely.

Water-repellent: not easily penetrated by water, especially as a result of being treated for such a purpose with a surface coating.

Waterproof: impervious to water.

Let’s find out more

Water-resistant boots only provide temporary protection. The protection features are more of an afterthought that will fade away with some time. It often sprayed with a water-resistant material rather than having features built right in.

Water-Repellent work boots stand a very high chance of being coated with some form of thin-film nanotechnology, whether that is on the inside, outside, or both. Many companies claim water-repellency, but the term is heavily debated because of all the questions and unpredictable elements associated with it.

On the other hand, Waterproof means that the boots are completely safe to be used in wet conditions for prolonged periods of time. You can stand in water without worrying about it getting in. The unique features that provide this benefit are built directly into the boots during the construction phase.

The term waterproof usually communicates the idea that this is a permanent condition, and that whatever has been ‘waterproofed’ will never fail due to contact with water–no matter the situation. They can hold up well to the occasional splash, but they won’t hold up to more extreme environments.

If you’re looking for the best protection possible, the waterproof work boots are the way to go.

Choose waterproof work boots made of 100% genuine full-grain leather. Full-grain leather doesn’t lose its breathability when waterproofed. It is capable of repelling the water while allowing the air to circulate through it at the same time.

Now, if your job requires you to be stood in the water a lot of the time, then the best waterproof work boots will be any which are made from rubber.

With its ability to keep every single drop of water out, rubber is perfect for wet jobs.

This makes it hard for the water to penetrate through it but so for the air as well. It compromises the breathability of the pair and causes sweaty feet.

The only problem with rubber boots, at least in the past. Thanks to the advancement in modern technology, the majority of rubber work boots are now equipped with a breathable inner lining, helping your feet breath while they are dry, or submerged in water.

Safety & Certificate

Choosing the right work boot is important. Choose safety work boots in general and waterproof work boot in particular, the safety factor is one of the major factors. It depends on the type of occupational risk.

After understanding the work conditions you can know what safety features do you need. as with all work boot, additional safety features may be required such as waterproof, electrical resistance, slip resistance, penetration resistant, metatarsal, etc.

The best way to choose the best waterproof work boots, as well as a safety work boot in general, is seeing on the standards.

In the United States, all work environments are subject to regulation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which is a division of the US Department of Labour. The OSHA incorporates standards produced by an independent nonprofit organization called ASTM International, or simply ASTM.

Each workplace is different, so not all protective shoes are required to meet all of the standards. Safety Standards will help you decide on what is needed for your work environment.

The following is the list of all dangers covered by the OSHA ASTM standards:

Impact – This standard covers falling objects of varying weights and heights, which may be dropped onto the foot.

Class I/75 Footwear retains a (1/2) inch for men’s and (15/32) inch for women’s or greater clearance after a nominal impact of 75 foot-pounds.

Compression – This standard covers a slower crushing load, such as a vehicle running over the foot.

Example: Class C/75 retains a (1/2) inch after compression of 2,500 lbs or greater. Both composite toe and steel toe meet or exceed ASTM F2413 Standard for protective footwear.

Metatarsal (MT) – This standard covers the protection of the upper, or metatarsal, region of the foot.

This standard mean retains a 1.0-inch clearance to the metatarsal foot area, after a nominal impact of 75-foot pounds

Conduction Rating (Cr) – This standard covers the shoe’s ability to resist the build-up of static charge, which can be dangerous in areas that may contain explosive chemicals.

Electrical Hazard (EH) – This standard covers the shoe’s ability to protect the wearer from electrical shocks.

The work boot must be capable of withstanding the application of 18,000 volts at 60 hertz for one minute with no current flow or leakage current in excess of one milliampere under dry conditions. Meets ASTM F2413-11

Puncture/Penetration Resistant (PR) – This standard covers the shoe’s ability to protect the wearer from sharp objects puncturing the sole of the shoe, such as nails, glass, etc.

Puncture-resistant footwear must be able to withstand a minimum puncture resistance of 270 pounds force through the sole and heel area. PR Footwear meets ASTM F2413-11.

Static Dissipative (SD) – This standard rates the shoe’s ability to safely conduct any buildup of static electricity through the sole and into the floor.

The work boots must have a lower limit of electrical resistance of 1 megohm and an upper limit of 100 megohms when 50 volts are applied. SD Footwear meets ASTM F2413-11.

As not all dangers that employees may face are regulated by OSHA requirements, employers also need to consider additional protective properties, such as:

Slip Resistance – If the employer is unable to prevent slip hazards, they must supply footwear that will afford protection against slipping.

Ankle Protection – This may be required when the employee is riding a motorcycle or quadricycle, or walking over uneven ground.

Biological Agents – This requirement covers shoes that are constructed to be impermeable to biological agents and are also easily disinfected.

Chemical Permeability – The employer must provide footwear that will be impermeable to any chemicals that an employee will come into contact with.
